Transformation of the Day: Today we are sharing a Mother/Daughter transformation. Daughter Shayla lost 105 pounds and Mom Catina lost 40 pounds with the help of a great trainer. They were tired of weight gain, tired of being tired and wanted to have more energy. Check out their weight release journey.
Shayla – starting weight: 280 pounds, current weight: 175 pounds
Catina – starting weight: 200 pounds, current weight: 160 pounds
Height: Shayla 5’3″, Catina 5’5″
How long did your transformation take? 1 year
What was your motivation?
Shayla: I spent most of my life as a heavier girl and I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. I had enough! I started walking on my own and changing my eating habits to try and lose weight, which worked, but I wasn’t achieving the shape that I wanted. That’s when I decided to see what Transform you Fitness was all about.
Catina: My story was a bit different. I noticed with every birthday, my ability to maintain my weight is starting to decline. I was tired more and had less energy so I decided to join my daughter Shayla and go through this transformation journey together.
What inspired you when you wanted to give up?
Shayla: Honestly, we encouraged each other along the way. We kept our eyes on the goals we wanted to achieve. Most importantly we were surrounded by women who look like us, striving for the same goals.
Catina: When you look at the walls in the gym you see pictures of women who are a reflection of you.
It is always inspiring to see so many women that look like us come in and change their lives, mentally and physically.
How did you change your eating habits?
Shayla: Rod at Transform You Fitness develops a meal plan based on our body type and that’s what we followed. It’s really simple in its beginning stages. We limit our carbohydrate intake to breakfast and lunch and we avoid carbs in the evenings. We make this sacrifice every day except Saturday evening. Each Saturday we enjoy a cheat Meal meal and eat whatever we want as the last meal of the day.
Catina: We definitely had to cut out all of junk food such as chips, cookies, cakes, pies and, believe it or not, most fruit, yogurt and all dairy. We we’re able to eat grits, toast or oatmeal for breakfast and even yellow rice, brown rice or a sweet potato for lunch. Everything else we ate consisted of protein and green vegetables.
What did your workout routines look like?
Shayla: The beautiful thing about our workout routine is it’s all developed by our trainer Rod. We never had to figure out on our own what part of the body we would work out each session. At TYF, our routines consist of lifting heavy weights and incorporating plyometric exercises. For instance on upper body days, we do a lot of shoulder press, chest press, bent-over rows, curls etc. When we’re working on abs we incorporate leg raises, double toe touches and double crunches. Our lower body/plyometric workout routines consist of lunges, squats, jump lunges, jump squats, plank jacks, squat jacks, jumping jacks, etc. We train in the fitness studio 3 to 4 days each week for 30 minutes a day.
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
Shayla: I would say to others just make the decision that enough is enough. Decide that you are going to make a change and surround yourself with like-minded individuals. Always remember this is a marathon, not a sprint. It is going to take time and it doesn’t happen overnight. However, if you stay focused, eat clean and stay active, you can achieve the goals you desire.
Catina: What she said. Lol.
