Don't forget food deserts. I've seen stores in the ghetto offering very little or no healthy food. Nearly spoiled veggies and fruits. Some neighborhoods doesn't have grocery stores at all. Also, I think we should take people off the poor food stamp diet and teach them healthier choices. It's sad, but some honestly don't know. They grow up with bad examples stay within them, and don't get education on how to eat.

This article is right on point and I am trying so hard to get some of the men/women and young adults in my family be aware of the dangers. Also get the skinny ones to see that skinny don't mean healthy my mom weighs 68lbs now and she is chronically ill and most of her illness was lifestyle related. I have lost too many relatives where the docs stated over and over that their weight was a major contributing factor in their illness and if left unmanaged it would be bad later on...............I know it cost more at leas it seems like it to eat unprocessed food but you pay now or later I SAY TAKE THE MONEY YOU SPEND ON BIGGER CLOTHES, AND DOCTOR BILLS and invest in not only your health but the longevity of your family. Thank you for POSTING THIS ONE.............maybe we can get the word out since some doctors are afraid to say something when they see their patients weight creeping up because we live in a "I will sue" society.

It's both bad news and a call to action for people of color. I think a huge, often missed cause, for obesity is untreated emotional problems. Many of our people are over stressed, depressed, anxious and other emotional issues that contribute to our weight problems. Unless, these are dealt with, weight loss will be thwarted.
