Transformation of the Day: Tina lost 60 pounds. When her doctor added an additional prescription for diabetes medication to the 4 pills she was already taking, she knew that it was time to make some changes. She made her health a priority and held herself accountable. Check out how she took action.
On April 10, 2015, I went to my 6 month diabetic check up. I was told that my A1c level was elevated. My doctor prescribed another pill for me to take. This was very frustrating, because I was already taking 4 different medications for diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. I left the doctor feeling disgusted and simply tired! I started to use my 3 year old gym membership that very next day. I decided that day that I no longer wanted to be the lazy woman who can’t stop eating and has to rely on pills to live. I decided to take back my life!
Initially, I cut out sodas completely. This was the hardest thing, because I’d been drinking a Coke several times daily. I started to add more veggies to my meals and swap out unhealthy snacks for healthier versions. For example, instead of snacking on candy I would snack on raw almonds. I’d have spinach instead of iceberg lettuce. I also cut out fast food and stopped cooking fried foods. Just recently, I started following a meal plan which has me carb cycling and calculating calories and macronutrients.
For exercise, I would mainly do cardio, either on the elliptical or the treadmill. I paid attention to which one would give me the highest calorie burn and I used that machine the most. I eventually started to use the other machines at the gym as well. At the start of my journey, I did one hour of cardio and about 20-30 minutes strength training. Now, I am at the point where I am following a fitness plan, so I do fasted cardio for about 45 minutes and about one hour of weight training. I also take various fitness classes so that boredom doesn’t set in.
My highest weight was 267 pounds and I currently weigh 207 pounds. I am 5 ft, 6in tall. My transformation has taken over a year. I started on April 11, 2015.
My advice: Believe in yourself and hold yourself accountable! Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is so important to for so many different reasons. It can’t be bought or given to you. If you want health bad enough, you have to get up and do something to achieve it! For every excuse you can come up with to not workout, think of two more reasons why you should. Also, having a workout partner is great, but please don’t get so attached to other people that you don’t workout because they won’t or can’t! At the end of the day, it is totally up to you to get it done!
