Transformation of the Day: Melonique lost 72 pounds. She is a proud mom and wife with a busy life who wanted to be a healthy and happy example for her daughters. By eating clean, exercising and giving God the glory, she has transformed her mindset and her body. Check out her story.
Hi, my name is Melonique. I am a wife, mother and have a full time career. For years I used all of this to give myself a pass for my unhealthy choices. I have always been “thick” but after dealing with a brief depression due to the loss of my first child in pregnancy in my 20’s my weight began to spiral out of control.
I have done almost every fad diet known to man. Over the years, I have lost weight and put it right back on. I began to have the mentality that, “I just need to accept myself as I am”. However, knowing my potential and having been an athlete in my youth, that thought didn’t sit well with me. Accepting defeat was not an option because I now have 3 little girls looking up to me.
A friend of mine had recently joined a boot camp and invited me to join her. I made every excuse not to go. Eventually, I had a change of heart and signed up for the boot camp later on that same week. I signed up for a 6 week challenge with the Camp Transformation Center and as cliche as it sounds I have never been the same. My entire thought process has changed. I have learned to love to eat clean and exercise, which were both struggles for me because of my busy schedule. I’ve also learned to make time for myself.
I workout 4-5 times per week doing HIIT training, lifting weights and doing cardio. I cut out all processed foods, white rice, breads of any kind, sugars, dairy and butter/oil. I stuck with lean meats, such as chicken breast, fish and turkey. I ate lots of green veggies, like broccoli, spinach, asparagus, celery. I also ate whole grains, like brown rice and quinoa. I incorporated sweet potatoes and yams into my diet and drank at least a gallon of water daily.
From my heaviest weight, I’m down 72 pounds. 43 of those pounds were lost in boot camp. I am 5’2″. My starting weight was 210 pounds and I now weigh 138 pounds. My journey has been a process of 6 years but the most recent 43 lb loss took about 7 months to achieve. Now, my focus is on toning and strength training.
I give all glory to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for helping me throughout my journey and my husband and children for their constant love and support. I could not be more blessed! My best advice for those who are still struggling with weight loss is to create a mental shift. This process is 100% mental. No one can do this for you. Once your thought process changes everything else will follow. It has to be a lifestyle, not just a quick fix. Lastly, never give up! If you fall, get right back on track.
