Transformation of the Day: Our Zimbabwean sister Sasha lost 17kg/37 pounds in 3 months. She’s just 21 years old, but she was starting to experience health issues, like high blood pressure. Check out how she released the weight.
My name is Sasha Rainbow and I’m from Zimbabwe. Losing weight had been a challenge until I started following some of your monthly challenges and tips 3 months ago. With dedication and perseverance, I’ve gone from 89kg to 72kgs.
What was your motivation? What inspired you when you wanted to give up?
I started having health problems, like high blood pressure, and I am only 21 years old. When I got admitted to a hospital last year, that’s when I realized that I had to start a healthy lifestyle.
How did you change your eating habits?
With an African diet, it wasn’t easy because we have staple foods. In Zimbabwe, ours is Sadza. We eat it almost everyday. Sadza contains a lot of carbs. I had to cut out many carbs and cut out red meat completely for the past 3 months. I ate a lot of fruit, lots of vegetables and I drank a lot of water.
What did your work out routine look like?
I started running 5km (3 miles) 3 times a week. It became a lifestyle for me. I would wake up 10 minutes before getting into gear and go to the Black Women Losing Weight Facebook page to get inspiration to get off the bed.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
From all this, I have learned that nothing is impossible. With dedication, you can conquere all.
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
To those trying to lose weight, like myself, I just want to say that it’s your body and its your life. Be in control. Do not let people tell you otherwise. Be bold and be brave. Never give up, no matter what.
