Transformation of the Day: Charity lost 82 pounds. She was tired of the way her weight was negatively affecting her quality of life. After lots of thought and consideration, she had Gastric Sleeve surgery in May. Also, boxing workouts have become her go-to when it comes to exercise.
What was your motivation?
My motivation was and is still my health. I really just wanted my body back. I also didn’t want my weight to get in the way of my quality of life. Non-scale victories like crossing my legs, sitting in tight spaces, and wearing necklaces that I couldn’t fit before keep me motivated.
What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
I often get discouraged when I hit a stall, and the scale isn’t moving the way I want it to move. However, I remember that I didn’t gain weight overnight. I am losing weight rapidly because of weight loss surgery, and my body is changing and adapting.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
After a lot of thought and consideration, I opted to have Gastric Sleeve surgery on May 18th, 2020. (vertical sleeve gastrectomy – VSG)
How did you change your eating habits?
Since I’ve had bariatric surgery, my eating is restricted to about 2-4 oz of food.
How often do you work out?
I work out 3-4 days a week.
What did your workout routine consist of?
I LOVE BOXING! I am a member at 9Round Boxing in Union Hills, so I work out with them online. I also take an abs and booty class, one day a week. I work out with Boxing 4 Health in Oakland, one day a week online.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My highest weight was 372 pounds. My surgery weight was 363.3 pounds, and my current weight is 280.6 pounds.

When did you start your journey?
I’ve been battling my weight since I was young, and it’s always fluctuated, but I started my surgery journey in September 2019. I’m still transforming and losing weight daily.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that so much of this weight loss process is unpacking emotional baggage and healing my heart.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
My advice for any woman looking to lose weight is to be kind to your body, honor your body during the process, and try not to be mean to yourself.
