Transformation of the Day: Charlie lost 120 pounds. She was tired of hiding way all the time and tired of making excuses. She decided to use boxing, interval training and proper nutrition to release the weight. Check out what she shared with us about her journey.
What was your motivation?
I wasn’t happy with my life and how I was living it. I got tired of my excuses, so I decided to change. What kept me going was the feeling that I was finally becoming myself. I felt strong and confident. I no longer felt shy or like I wanted to hide away all the time. I knew that wasn’t who I really was and I was sick of living my life as that person. That’s what kept me going.
How did you change your eating habits?
Cut out all junk food. Instead, I stuck with healthy proteins, carbs and veggies. No healthy fats till I hit a healthy weight. I also drank a gallon of water a day.
What did your workout routines look like? How often did you workout?
I started off with boxing. Then, I took classes that focused on High Intensity Interval Training. I fell in love with weight lifting and started to add in compound movements. I worked out 5 to 6 times a week.
Starting weight/Current weight
I remember stepping on the scale and seeing 300 lbs. I wasn’t ready to change so I just kept eating. I knew that I was getting bigger, because my clothes were getting smaller. My current weight is 180 pounds. If we’re counting from 300 lbs, then I’ve lost a total of 120 lbs so far. My height is 5’5″
How long did your transformation take?
I started my journey in January 2015. I signed up at a boxing gym with some co-workers and lost about 60 pounds in 5 1/2 months. By that time, my coworkers weren’t coming to the gym with me anymore and I was starting to lose my motivation to workout and eat healthy. I saw an ad for a 6 week 20 lb challenge at a local gym and decided to sign up. That was the accountability I needed to get back on track. I did 2 challenges and continued to workout there for another 6 months. When all was said and done, I had lost 60 more pounds by July 2016.
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
Understand that this is going to be hard. Maybe one of the hardest things you will ever have to do. There are going to be days when you fall off your plan. There are going to be days when you will want to quit all together. There are going to be days when you just can’t seem to find the outside support you may feel that you need to keep going. I promise you, if you do keep going (even after the slip ups) it will be the best decision you’ve ever made. Nothing will make you feel more confident, strong and proud.
Oh hey! I forgot something. People keep asking how I did in the show. 3 rd place in my Class 2nd place in Novice Thought I’d share for those that were curious.
