Transformation of the Day: Chalis lost 33 pounds. After a family member died due to a heart attack, she started researching the meat and dairy industry and how these foods affect the body. This led to her decision to switch to a plant-based diet.
I’ve been on the roller coaster of weight loss my whole life. In July 2019, I decided to start losing weight by participating in the HealthyWage Program. It’s a system where you bet on your weight loss. I lost a few pounds, but nothing really changed. In November, a family member died from a heart attack at the age of 50. I started researching the meat & dairy industry and figuring out what consuming these products was doing to my body.Â
I found out that 48% of black women have heart disease, and we die from heart disease more often than all other Americans.
Eating Habits: At this point, I stopped consuming meat and dairy products. I became 90% vegan and 10% vegetarian because dairy products are hidden in a lot of foods. I eat plant-based meals predominantly.
I lost 17 pounds between January and February when my church (Sozo church) went on the Daniel Fast, and I cut out sugar and bread from my vegan lifestyle.
Losing weight is all about what you are eating, not how much you exercise. I lost most of my weight without exercise while being mindful of what went into my mouth.Â
Exercise: I found a book in the library called Strong by Lou Schuler. I used the exercise techniques in the book while working out at the gym about three times per week for an hour each time.
Starting Weight/Current Weight: In July 2019, I weighed 193 pounds, and I currently weigh 160 lbs. My height is 5’4″.
Biggest Lesson: I’ve learned to start treating my body like the temple God resides in. If I ask God for help, I will receive answers if I’m following the path he has for my life.
Best Advice: I suggest everyone get in tune with themselves. Stop believing everything you’ve been told. Go seek out the answers for yourself. Figure out why you are eating what you eat and start making changes.
