Transformation of the Day: Ashley lost 145 pounds. After years of weight gain, back pain and sleep apnea, it was her mother’s triumph over cancer that inspired her to fight against obesity. Check out her story.
I started my weight loss journey a little over a year ago and I’ve lost pounds 145 pounds. I started this journey at 392 pounds and I am now 247 pounds and counting. My height is 5’9″.
Due to my weight, I developed back pain, sleep apnea (had to use a CPAP machine), and I was borderline for diabetes. After high school, I continued to gain weight until it got out of control and I didn’t recognize myself. After my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer, I began to take my health more seriously. My mom beat cancer, so I knew I could get the weight off and keep it off.
I wanted to get the weight off naturally and started taking steps in order to do so. The first thing I did was threw away all of my junk food and hit the grocery store for healthier options. I started with a 7 day sugar-free, liquid detox and followed it up with the Master Cleanse for a week. I lost my first 20 pounds by doing this. After the first 2 weeks, I focused on eating healthy foods and trying to eliminate sugar from my diet. I limit the amount of fruits I eat because they contain natural sugars. I also avoid bread, pasta and potatoes. I am now leaning towards eating more vegetarian options because they have helped my weight loss progress.
I initially started exercising by doing at home workouts because I was ashamed to go to the gym. Zumba and Insanity DVDs jumpstarted my weight loss journey. After losing 40 pounds, I joined a gym, got a personal trainer and with the right nutrition I began melting. Now, I work out about 4 times a week for 45 minutes doing cardio and strength training. My motto is “Eat clean, Train dirty”.
My mother beat breast cancer and I will beat obesity. My advice to others: Stop putting off losing weight and get healthy today. Do not sit back and wish it was you. It can be you, transforming daily, but you have to do the work. If I can do it, trust me anyone can do it.
