Today’s featured before and after: My Sigma Gamma Rho soror Lisa lost 59 pounds with the help of Weight Watchers, changing her eating habits and working out. Here is what she had to share:
Firstly, I enjoy your Facebook and webpage. I too am on a weight loss journey that as of today has allowed me to lose 59 pounds since Christmas Eve 2011. I decided to join Weight Watchers on that day because I was not happy with my body at all. Being a former athlete in my teens and twenties, I felt like I had let myself go. When I got on the scale and weighed in at 280.4 pounds, I knew a change had to come. I had accomplished so much in my late 30’s: I went back to school to complete my Associates, Bachelors and Master’s degrees; I got a new job that I enjoy; modeled in local fashion shows and I joined the Sophisticated Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated. Therefore, my weight was my next challenge/goal. Now that I’m at 221.4 pounds, my goal is to lose another 40 lbs. The journey has not been easy, but anything you really want to succeed in never really is. Plus, I’m in no rush to get the last 40 pounds off, because I’m much better off than I was a year and a half ago. I prefer Weight Watchers because it holds me accountable and I get to choose my meals. Additionally, I enjoy going to the meetings and interacting with others. I’ve completely changed my eating habits. I eat more fruits and vegetables now than I’ve ever eaten in my life. I cut out soda and juice 99.9% (I do have the occasional diet soda). I don’t eat a lot fried foods and I drink lots of water. I exercise 4-5 days a week doing a variety of things. I’ve recently started a 90-day Fitness Challenge, along with Zumba 3 days a week and cardio kickboxing. Now that the weather is nice, I will be incorporating bike riding back into my routing. I discovered in working out, you have to do activities that you enjoy. I love Zumba so much that I plan on becoming a certified instructor this month. I’m much happier with ME now and LOVING the skin I’m in.
