Ashley lost 41 pounds

September 17, 2019 by Ajima Jackson 1 Comment

Transformation of the Day: Ashley lost 41 pounds. Before her journey began, she says that her relationship with her weight was the worst, most unstable relationship she’d ever been in. Now, she is focused and determined to be healthy and happy. Check out her journey.

Ashley before and after

What was your motivation?
Like most women, I wanted to be happy with what I saw in the mirror. I wanted to look better, feel better, and be completely happy. I’ve accomplished a few things in my life, but weight loss was one thing I could not grasp. It was definitely time for a change.

How did you change your eating habits?
When I changed my eating habits, I didn’t want it to be drastic because I knew that would eventually lead to binge eating. I began substituting my candy for fruits and my chips/dip for veggies. Juice and I had a very toxic relationship, so flavored water became my new best friend. I also substituted ground beef for ground turkey and cut back tremendously on my pork intake.

I mainly eat chicken, seafood, and turkey: no bread, pasta, or rice. My personal trainer encouraged me to try the substitution method instead of just dieting. It’s one of the best decisions I’ve made!

Tell us about your workout routine.
I work out 5-6 days a week. A few months ago, I started working out with my trainer four days a week. I did independent training two days a week, including Sundays. My routine would include 15-30 minutes of cardio every day, and I would alternate between arm day, leg day, and a full-body workout.

Now that I’ve transitioned to training independently, the strength, the drive, and the motivation are becoming crucial. Your trainer is your cheerleader, but when all of that is gone, the only person left is you. Learning to love yourself and being proud of the small accomplishments you’ve made is very important at this time.

Starting weight/Current weight
Three years ago, I weighed 235 pounds. Since then, my weight and I have had the worst, unstable relationship I’ve ever been in. Today I weigh 194 pounds, standing at 5 feet, 5 inches tall.

When did you start your journey?
I started this journey in 2016, but I began to take it seriously earlier this year. I’ve never been more focused and determined to be healthy and happy. During this journey, I’ve learned so much about myself and the experience itself.

What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?

  1. Fall in love with yourself.
  2. Acknowledge your progress.
  3. If you fall off the wagon, don’t stay down.
  4. JUST START!!!

Congratulations! You look fantastic! Thanks for sharing your advice on this journey. I have a bad habit of being too hard on myself and I need to show myself some grace and be proud of the accomplishment I’ve ALREADY achieved!
