Shirlene lost 23 pounds after joining the awesome Girltrek movement and pledging to walk for a healthier lifestyle. She is determined to walk into her 40s having laid a firm foundation for a healthier and more active lifestyle. Check her story.
Hi my name is Shirlene Nixon and I’m 39 years old. On April 1 2016, I decided that I wanted to change my life. I wanted to get healthy and fit. So I joined the Girltrek, a movement that inspires black women to get out and walk in their neighborhoods and communities. On April 1 2016, I took the pledge too walk for a healthier lifestyle. I also started doing monthly challenges with Girltrek. Since then, I’ve lost weight.
My main motivation was a photo I took back in January. I didn’t like what I saw, so I decided it was time too get up and start getting my life back. There were times when I wanted to give up but I would always go back, look at that picture and tell myself that I never wanted to go back to that unhappy and unhealthy lifestyle again.
My weight started out at 200 pounds at 5’3″ tall. I reached my current weight of 177 pounds in about 2 months [April 1 thru June]. I’m so thankful and excited about seeing these results so far. I also would also add that my inspiration came from my friend/classmate Tammi Hathron-Mickells who has an amazing weight loss story. She gave me the daily motivation I needed too get up and workout. I thank her so much for that.
I changed my eating habits and focused on eating only healthy foods. I also incorporates Green Smoothies into my morning breakfast. I gave up all fast food and started more eating healthy foods, like veggies and fruits.
I workout 5 days a week, 2 hrs each day. My exercise routine consisted of walking, running and jogging. I did some other forms of cardio in addition to that.
My advice for other women who want too lose weight is to Do It. Don’t wait! Get up today and start working towards a healthier and happy you. Don’t ever give up! Just remember that you are the one who has to make these changes. It’s not going to be easy. You have to put in the work to get the results that you are looking for, the results you need to create the body you want. It’s a lifestyle change. God bless you all.
