Weight Loss Journey: Shawna wrote in to share her progress. She lost 6 pounds in a little over a month and you can see a serious difference in her photos. She has a PhD in Clinical Psychology (from my alma mater Howard University) and she’s a fitness coach and gym owner. She shared with us how she’s shedding the pounds.
I have incorporated a no flour, no sugar way of life and I simply love it. Since starting this journey, I have lost 6 lbs since Feb 1,2016, but the scale is not the only indicator of good health. I am much happier and calmer. I have more energy and I’m more organized.
Motivation: My 40th birthday is approaching fast (Jan 2017). One day, I was cooking and the thought hit me… If I gain 5 lbs for the next 3 years, I would be considered obese. I never thought that I would see the weight I was at the time, so nothing was impossible in my mind. Not only that, but my self esteem was dropping quickly and my clothes weren’t fitting. I am a extrovert and I had begun to decline invitations to events as well, so I knew something was wrong. I also have a daughter in college and I wanted to be an example for her.
A co-worker of mine introduced to me an organization for food addicts. This program was structured like a twelve step program. The program provides guidance on eliminating sugar and flour, along with focusing on building your emotional and spiritual self. I can not tell you how much this has changed my life.
Before I started the program, I worked out excessively. I even own a boxing gym in Los Angeles called The Boxing District. Since starting the program, I work out at least 3 times a week, including hiking, running and boxing, but now the pressure is different. I exercise because I want to, not because I have to. I am finally not ” trying” to out run my diet.
I am 5’5″ and my transformation is still in progress. However, the pics are dated so you can follow my journey with me and hopefully keep me encouraged. I have been sugar and flour free for 45 days and counting!
