Ama lost 73 pounds. By going vegan, eating clean, and working out five days a week, she got awesome results.Â
I lost over 70 pounds by going vegan, completely clean eating (no cheat meals), and doing HIIT training five days a week.Â
When did you start your journey?
It began around March 2020. During the lockdown, I was an unemployed Master’s Graduate, and I was depressed. I weighed 230 pounds, and now I weigh 157 pounds.Â
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
I also suffer from PCOS and hadn’t seen my period in 2 years. The doctor said that weight loss would be my only solution because the medication was not working.
How did you change your eating habits?
I started by doing a 10-day raw vegan diet. For the next ten days, I went vegan (no dairy, etc.) and cut out carbs [starches]. I was basically continuing the raw diet. In those 20 days, I lost 10 pounds and became determined. I also started exercising.Â
The problem was I didn’t have enough energy because of that lack of food. I decided to switch to a cycle of one day on the raw diet, and the next day no carbs. I have been doing that consistently since April 2020. It is second nature now. I look forward to my raw days, and I look forward to the days I can eat real food without carbs.Â
What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you work out?
I work out Monday – Friday from 5 am-6 am. I use the Stairmaster for 30 minutes, followed by weightlifting. (Sometimes, I only do 30 mins on the Stairmaster or cardio and then leave.)There is a gym in my apartment building, and throughout lockdown, it has remained open. I do not miss my workouts. I get the weekend off.Â
What is your height?
5’6″
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No weight loss surgery, but I am considering skin removal surgery.Â
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
Nothing comes easy.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
It is so hard to start. But when you start, you’re almost unstoppable. Seeing results is the biggest motivation.Â
