Transformation of the Day: Duann lost 72 pounds. Our petite sister from Ontario gained over 70 pounds during her first pregnancy. After a wakeup call on the floor of her closet, she knew that she had to find a way to achieve lasting weight loss, not just a quick fix. Now she is sharing her workouts online and helping others to reach their weight release goals. Check out her story.
How many of you can testify that when we get older those “quick fixes” that we used to do no longer work? When I was in my early 20’s, the way I kept “in shape” was skipping meals and then putting my body in a “fasting state” just in time to rock that perfect outfit. Sound familiar?
After gaining over 70 pounds during my first pregnancy and giving birth to 2 children by C-section, I had to do a serious re-evaluation of my life.
I remember sitting in my walk in closet, getting ready for church, and having a panic attack because reality hit me that NOTHING was fitting and I didn’t know how in the world I was going to lose all the weight I had gained. On the floor in my closet, that is when I became 100% committed to my goal of living a healthier lifestyle.
Unlike before, it was now important to me to find something that worked, and would help me not only to lose the weight and tone up, but MAINTAIN my results. I lead a super busy lifestyle, and I didn’t want to use “not having any time” as an excuse. I wasn’t just looking for a quick fix or a fad diet! So, I was excited when I found a home-based program that gave me an amazing workout regimen and taught me how to eat and fuel my body so that I could get maximum results from my exercises!
There are so many women yo-yoing with their weight and fitness, but that does not have to be your reality! I can testify to the fact that in 7 years, I haven’t plateaued and I have NEVER GAINED THE WEIGHT BACK! How is that for long lasting, natural results?! I am 38 years old and I am in the BEST shape of my life! I am barely 5 feet tall 9 (5′ 1/4″) and, at my heaviest I weighed 189 pounds. Currently, I weigh 117 pounds.
Portion control and learning how and when to eat were key for me. I used to eat till I was full, now I eat till I am satisfied. I used to eat late, now I stop eating within 2 hours of bedtime. I also started supplementing my nutrition with a superfood shake and it makes all the difference for me because now I am fueling by body with exactly what it needs, plus some extras, which help me to get the maximum results from my workouts!
I love strength training and I found that combining that with hi intensity cardio routines really worked. At the beginning of my journey, I worked out 7 days a week for at least 30 minutes. My rest day would still involve doing yoga or pilates. Now, I still workout 5-6 days a week so that I can improve my results by getting stronger and increasing my muscle tone.
My advice for those who are trying to lose weight: If the whole process just seems too overwhelming, focus on changing one small habit at a time. Start in the area that you feel more draw too. If you are more interested in cooking and eating healthy start there. If you feel like you want to start by getting into a workout routine, commit to that. The genuine interest you have will be what will get you out of “contemplation to action” and help you to stay committed until you start to see tangible results! Once you have experienced small victories in that area and it is becoming a part of your routine, add a new goal or area of focus to work on. Set tangible goals in your area of focus ( ie. I will workout 5 days a week for a month) and regularly take note of the positives that you are experiencing along your journey ( i.e. more energy, clothes feeling looser, better mood) to help you to continue to press forward!
