Sam lost over 100 pounds after the birth of her son. She gained a significant amount of weight during pregnancy and had to work to change her life in order to release the weight. She encouraged moms to love their bodies, saying, “You are beautiful, you are magical and your body supported a baby! You are truly amazing!”
I weighed about 145 pounds before I had my son. I gained a lot of weight, almost 100 lbs (though some of it was water retention), when I was pregnant with my son. However, at the time I was still active and eating pretty healthy. The issue was that I just A LOT of food.
I didn’t have an health complications with my pregnancy. After I gave birth, I lost about 40 pounds in the first month. During the next 7 to 9 months, I lost weight pretty slowly while struggling with milk supply. After I stopped pumping, at about 10 months is when I started doing some serious dieting.
I’ve always eaten whole grain everything; pasta, rice, bread, etc. I cut down on bread and pasta as much as I could. I started by changing my white grains to whole grains and used coconut oil instead of vegetable oil. I also try to eat as much organic food as I can and take vitamins and probiotics.
I went to the gym gradually, more frequently during the week. Zumba is what helped me. I did Step-Zumba class every Saturday for months to get my cardio up. Eventually, I also started taking other classes, like TRX, and I started adding more weight training to my weekly routine once I got down to about 150 pounds. Let me tell you that SQUATS WORK.
Eating wise, I make sure to eat as much veggies as I can. Green Peppers work the best for me for burn fat. In the beginning, I thought I would never lose weight or tighten up, but I did it. I want to lose about 5 – 10 more lbs and firm up a bit more, but that progress will come.
I didn’t have any surgery even though I wanted to do that badly in the beginning. 1) I couldn’t afford it and 2) my husband said I didn’t need it. It took be about 15 months to lose all my weight.
Some advice I would give to Mamas is “Don’t stress out.” You are beautiful, you are magical and your body supported a baby! You are truly amazing! Take baby steps with dieting and working out. If you gained a lot of weight, like me, just love your body for what it did. It’s not disgusting, its AMAZING!
