Transformation of the Day: Melanie lost 228 pounds. This RN knew that she wanted to change. In 2015, she started her journey weighing over 400 pounds. She worked with a wellness coach and fell in love with meal prepping and exercise. Check out her story.

My name is Melanie and I’m 33 years old. I’m orginally from West Helena, AR and I’m 5’9″. I currently live in Tennessee and I’m a Registered Nurse. I started my journey on June 20, 2015. My highest weight was 435.6 pounds. My weight in July 2015 was 429.8 pounds. I currently weigh 207 pounds.
I went through a divorce, bankruptcy and many other obstacles in my life. I want to use my testimony to share with women around the world that they can win the battle against obesity. I didnt have surgery. I didnt take any pills. I just strictly made myself accountable for whatever I ate.
In June 2015, I decided that really wanted to change, but I needed help doing so. I hired a wellness coach who walked with me, looked over my daily journals and held me accountable when I did wrong.
I stopped eating out. Before I started, I would eat KFC and other fast foods daily. I would eat 1 bag of Flammin Hot chips daily or hot popcorn. I traded those snacks for healthier ones, such as Atkins protein bars and Quest protein chips found at Walmart and GNC. Now, I make my own wings, removing the skin and limiting the portion size. Normally, I would eat 10 to 12 wings, but now I eat only 5 to 6. Moderation is the key. I cooked for myself throughout this journey. I do weekly meal prep and pack lunches and snacks. I take delight in prepping daily and I find it to actually be fun.

I exercise 3 to 4 times a week. I’m in the gym walking and running for no more than 45 minutes per session. I completed my first 5k in less than 45 minutes on September 17, 2016 for St. Jude Research Hospital, raising money for children with cancer
My family inspired me during my toughest moments to continue on this journey. I would often look at photos of my family members and that gave me motivation when the odds where pressing against me. My family enjoyed seeing the happier Melanie.
My advice to any woman wanting to lose weight: Just do it Keep the faith. Stick with the plan that works for your body. Remember, in all that you do it is God who gives you strength. Always keep God first. Be consistent and don’t give up when you have set backs or standstills. You can and will be successful.
