Transformation of the Day: Sharna’ lost 190 pounds. This proud mom just wanted to be able to run around and play with her children, so she transformed her lifestyle. She gave us an overview of her 6-year journey and how she reached her health and fitness goals.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
I wanted to be able to run around and play with my children. When I wanted to give up, I just looked at them to keep me motivated.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started my journey six years ago.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
Yes, I had Gastric Bypass surgery in March 2015.
How did you change your eating habits?
Initially, I portion-controlled the foods I ate. Then, I began eating clean in 2020: no processed foods and no added sugar or salt. I ate ground turkey, salmon, and lots of fresh veggies. I also took lots of vitamins and drank lots of water.
I ate small meals. My plate and contents could fit in the palms of my hands put together. When I felt full, I didn’t force myself to eat more just because I had more on the plate.
What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you work out?
At first, I just walked every day for exercise. Then, at the end of 2019, I joined Body by Maria fitness classes in Chesterfield, VA. Finally, in March 2020, I signed up for Maria’s eight-week Bikini Contest boot camp. For that, I was working out in the weight room and attending her classes daily, which averaged out to 4 hours of work per day.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My beginning weight was 330 pounds, and now I weigh 140 pounds.
What is your height?
I’m 5’4″.
Did you have loose skin after losing weight?
As for my loose skin, I did have abdominoplasty surgery (i.e., a tummy tuck) in 2019 to remove the skin from my lower stomach. In addition, I toned my arms and thighs naturally with weight training, boot camp classes, and by increasing my water intake.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
I learned that being healthy starts with the mind, and the body will follow. Once I mentally decided that this is what I wanted to do, the rest was easy.
I am very transparent about my process and hope that people are inspired, no matter what method they choose. It’s all hard work to maintain, but it’s worth it.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
No matter what, keep being consistent with healthy eating habits and working out.
