Transformation of the Day: Amekia lost 118 pounds. As a single parent of 2 boys, she knew that she had to take action to reclaim her health. Last year, she began making some serious lifesytle changes, including having gastric sleeve surgery and working out 5 days a week. Check out her story.
Heaviest Recorded Weight in (Nov 2016): 306 pounds
Weight at the beginning of the Pre-Op Diet (7/10/17): 283 pounds
Gastric Sleeve Surgery Date: Monday, July 24, 2017
Current Weight: 188 pounds.
What was your motivtion?
I’m a single parent of two amazing boys and my blood pressure was increasingly high. Therefore, I made the decision to become a healthier version of me in order to be here for them as long as possible. I haven’t taken any blood pressure medicine since July 2017.
How did you change your eating habits?
This journey is very difficult somedays because I have depended on food for happiness for many years. It is a daily struggle, but I continue to press my way. I try to follow a low carb./high protein diet. For the most part, I rarely eat sweets, bread, pasta or drink sodas… but I admit that some days I cheat!
What does your workout routine look like?
I work out 4-5 times a week (two days of Zumba class with Mrs. Chasity Jernigan, two days of personal training with Mr. Antonio Martin, and one day of kickboxing with Mr. Issac Ware).
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
Your weight loss journey is “Your Journey!” Find what works best for your body, and FIGHT until the end! There will be rough days, but you must find it within yourself to continue to push. You must focus on being the “BEST VERSION OF YOU!”
What advice would you share with other people who want to lose weight?
Never compare your journey or your body to anyone else’s, because this is “YOUR OWN UNIQUE JOURNEY!” My Zumba instructor, Chasity Jernigan, has embedded in me the concept of “BODY POSITIVITY”… meaning one must learn to love and accept their body and flaws at 350 pounds as well as at 150 pounds!
