Transformation of the Day: Jade lost 60 pounds. She began her journey as a freshman at Howard University. Walking up and down the hills on campus, she noticed that she was constantly out of breath and uncomfortable. So she took action by eating whole foods and working out. (Side note: Congrats to Jade for graduating this year! HU! You Know!)
My name is Jade. I am 22 years old. I lost 60 pounds, and I’ve consistently maintained my current weight for the past 2.5 years. My motivation for losing weight was my health and image of myself.
It was 2019; I had just started college and weighed 250+ pounds. I am only 5’3″, so that was a lot of weight on my frame. I went to Howard University, and there are many hills to walk up to get to class. I was constantly out of breath and not comfortable with how I looked.
I started my journey by eating cleaner and exercising. I only ate whole foods in the cafeteria. These included roasted chicken, veggies, potatoes, rice, cheese, etc. I also cut out all fast food, snacks, juice, sugary drinks, chips, ice cream, etc.
I worked out 3-5 times a week. This was just simple cardio for 30+ minutes (treadmill, elliptical, etc.). I later incorporated weight lifting as well.
Sometimes I wanted to quit, but I knew the image I wanted to see in myself. Also, I wanted other people to see what I saw when I looked in the mirror.
I lost about 60 lbs in the first four months. I currently weigh 195 pounds and have maintained this weight. I am still on my journey, but I am proud of myself.
My biggest lesson throughout this journey is that staying consistent and not looking at the scale too much is critical. Your weight will fluctuate as you are on your journey.
If you keep being consistent, you will start to feel and see the results. Of course, you will have cravings, but it will be so rewarding when you don’t give in to them mentally or physically.
