Update Feb 2019: Chakira faced depression and weight gain after getting sick in Nov 2018. She felt like she let down the people who looked to her for inspiration. By going keto, cutting calories and increasing her workouts, she’s released 17 pounds.
I’ve been working to motivate people to get in shape for five years. A lot of people don’t know that I got very sick in November 2018 and went into a deep depression. I was also dealing with situations at work. Before I got ill, I was eating healthy and working out daily. After getting food poisoning, I just didn’t care anymore. I started eating everything, and I didn’t care about working out. I felt like I let my fans and supporters down. My grandparents motivated me to get back at it. My Christmas gift to myself was a pink elliptical.
I wrote my goals down and said decided to start fresh January 1, 2019. I wanted to lose weight by February 26th, which is my fitness anniversary date. I decided to push myself and work out two times a day with no excuses. I wanted to motivate everyone and spread positive energy. My starting weight on 1/1/19 was 151 pounds, and my current weight is 134 pounds. (as of 2/26/19). I’m 28 years old and 4’11″.
When you have goals, you don’t have time for excuses. I don’t have time to feel bad for myself for not achieving my goals. I’m motivated to get up at 8 am and take my butt to the gym. I work out on the elliptical for an hour and weight train for 30 minutes, twice a day.
I’m motivated to meal prep and do keto the healthy way. I’m on a low-calorie Keto diet. I mainly eat fish, turkey, keto veggies, keto fruits, such as berries and nuts. I also eat lots of avocado, and I don’t do dairy at all. I take the HGC drops and only drink water. The drops help curve my appetite and give me some energy. I eat small portions, and I don’t overeat. Every two days, I drink Smooth Move tea from Walmart.
Advice: I would tell everyone to stay focused and don’t give up on your goals.

March 2017: Chakira continues to transform her body with healthy eating and lots of regular exercise.
I have maintained my weight by working out twice a day in the morning and evening. I will use the StairMaster or elliptical machine for 45 minutes to an hour. I weight train for 30 minutes, doing 6 sets of 15 to 20. I try to do 6 to 8 workouts per week, in the morning and evening. For my Ab workouts, I do 6 sets of 20 to 30. I break my body down by day. So, I focus on certain things in the morning workout and the other things in the evening workout. Doing more reps in the gym has helped a lot. How I reach my goals is by staying focused and cutting negative people and energy out my life. I like to be around positive people and positive energy.
My diet: I eat fish, chicken, chickpeas, beans, wild rice, sweet potatoes, fruit, oatmeal, egg whites and I only drink water. Before working out, I always take black seed oil and apple cinder vinegar for a boost of energy. If you are trying to create a healthy, fit lifestyle, my number one message is focus on you. You have to focus on you, your goals and what you want. Don’t make excuses. Get it done. I have days when I’m tired from working a full time job as a hairstylist and managing the salon 7 days a week. I also have my own business as a professional photographer. However, I have goals that I have to reach. Love yourself first and motivate others.
Update Oct 2015: Chakira wrote in to share her latest before and after photo and share a bit about how releasing the weight has changed her life. She has kept the weight off for 2 years and is still going strong: “Sometimes you have to cut people out your life to accomplish your goals. My fitness lifestyle changed the way I think and act. I was a wild, party girl before my weight loss journey. I went out 3 times a week, ate out all the time and did some exercise, but wasn’t crazy about it. Now, after losing the pounds, all I do is work, go to the gym, travel, and come home. This was the best decision I could ever make. People may think that I was stuck up, but know that I have things I have to focus on. Sometimes, you just have to delete the negative people out your life.”
November 2014 Update: We featured Chakira’s story last year (click here to read it). This petite diva shared how she lost 40 pounds. Since then, she’s made some changes to her lifestyle and added on some muscle. Here is an overview of her journey and progress since then:
My journey started on February 26, 2013 when I decided to make a change for myself. I needed to change my lifestyle and get healthy. I started working out twice a day and eating really clean. I’m so glad I made this lifestyle change for me. I didn’t have time to make excuses. I love how I have changed so many lives with motivating people to eat healthy and get in shape. I still have a lot of work to do, but I’m happy with the results I have so far. Everyday I try to accomplish a new goal. Sometimes I want to give up but I get calls, or messages with people saying that I motivate them so much, so that pushes me to do better.
What was your motivation? I wanted to change my lifestyle and motivate other people. I needed a new lifestyle. My ex-boyfriend was my motivation because he was in his 40s and in shape like the rock. I was in my 20s and out of shape.
How did you change your eating habits? I started eating clean, and food prepping. I cut all the bad foods out, and stop eating fast food. I stop eating late at night and eating junk food.
What did you stop or start eating? Now, I only eat fish, chicken, turkey, veggies, fruits and only drink water.
What did your workout routines look like? I did a lot of cardio to lose the weight, with no personal trainer. Now I do a lot of weights and some cardio, all with a trainer.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight? 147 pounds was my starting weight, I got down to 105 pounds and now I’m 125 pounds with muscle I’m also 4’11″…Yes, I’m short.
How long did your transformation take? Feb 26, 2013 to May 1, 2013
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight? Stay motivate and don’t give up. This lifestyle will change you and the way you think.
