Today’s featured weight loss success story: Letia lost 59 pounds.

I am 25 years old, and after years and years of diets i just gave up. High cholesterol and borderline diabetic, I couldn’t play with my kids and my knees hurt when I walked. My husband loved me but I did not love myself. Well, the way I looked anyway. I had a stroke which was caused by my high cholesterol and many other things. I’m sure by the grace of God I am here to see my kids but I knew that God gave me another chance and I needed to take full advantage. How could I die from being overweight. I felt it was selfish. We are all human. We are all people and we all can win this battle. Nothing happened overnight, it took alot of praying and restraint and support and even if you don’t have a support system you and God is all you need. I made myself a cut off time for food. I stopped eating when I felt full. I found alternatives to my fast food and snacks. I never knew how much i enjoyed fruit and veggies. I joined a gym.
I was a person that did not like breakfast but I realized I snacked a lot in between because I skipped breakfast. I started including breakfast into a daily habit then I would have a snack. I stopped eating out for lunch which saved money and calories. I started drinking 64oz of water or more a day and making a cut off time of 8pm for dinner for snacks. I had to figure out what I liked. I used a website called hungrygirl.com which replaces your favorite fast food and makes it into a healthy meal. That was a life saver because a lot of times on diets we cut everything out and then we become miserable. I brought smaller plates for the house instead of the huge dinner plates I would pile food on. I eat basically baked meats no beef no pork. If I want flavor I will use crystal light. When I eat my meals I drink water before. I always eat my protein first then veggies then starch if I have any and when I feel full I stop. I exercise 3-4 days a week weights are 2 of those days cardio are the others everyday. I think about me having a stroke and it motivates me to push and never give up and go back to my old habits. I have lost 59 pounds.
Today’s featured weight loss success story: Tasha lost 26 pounds by changing her eating habits and working out with a trainer.

Here is what she had to say about her weight loss journey:
“I was over weight close to 200 pounds In November 2010 and most of 2011. At the beginning of 2012, that’s when I realized that I had to lose weight not only for myself but for my Husband. I would feel out of breath eat junk food all of the time. I would go eat out at fast food Restaurants on my lunch break. It was horrible… so I started to exercise at the gym. I started off slow walking/running about 4 times a week for 30 to 40 minutes on the Treadmill and I would also workout on the StairMaster. Then I got really into it, so I hired myself a Personal Trainer. Till this day, as of Dec 2012, I still work out with my Trainer Melanie. She is the BEST and I still exercise on my own when I can. I changed my eating habits started eating more healthy such as Fruits, Salads, lots of Baked foods less fried foods made fruit Smoothies, etc. I am PROUD to say I went from 178 pounds to 152 pounds my weight goal Is to get down to 140 pounds.
I needed to change myself for the best and that’s exactly what I did and still doing to this day I pushed myself and I succeeded and I definitely see great results (HARD WORK PAYS OFF). God Bless!”
Today’s featured weight loss success story: Electra lost 30 pounds and says that it has a lot to do with mindset. I agree.

Here is what she had to say:
“After having a 7 & 4 yr old (yes long over due) I have done it! And next year I will do it again! Time to get leaner & tone up 2013! Full time working mom, wife, kid in modeling and acting, active in church activities (no excuses). I started 15mins a day and went to a half marathon this year…13.1 miles. WE can do this!!! I stuck to my New Years resolution for 2012! 🙂 #teamsexibodi
I tried MANY different diets and many failed because I fail them. I began working out 15mins a day right before I picked up my kids just to get into a routine. The kicked up my water content from 3 16.9 oz bottles to 1.5 liter. Then I bought toddler sized plates and started eating off those because I was not strong enough to eat properly from regular plates. I worked out 1 day to now 3-4 times a day from 30mins to 1 hr. I worked up from 1 mile to a half marathon (13.1 miles). My journey took 2 years because it took that long for me to change my mind. I lost the weight in 8 mos but I tell everyone 2 yrs bc it’s more important for one to see the journey than the lbs lost. As long as u do it, doesn’t matter if it takes 5 yrs. Once u change YOUR MINDSET u will change your body forever. Once u change your eating habits then regaining the weight is minimized. It starts with the mind.”
Today’s featured weight loss success story: RamaziYah lost 37 pounds.

Here is what she had to say about her weight loss journey:
“I love the Facebook page and love seeing the success stories which continue to inspire me to keep doing what I’m doing. I would love to present my before and after picture. It started for me about 9 years ago. I reached my highest at 195. I was very unhappy with my weight and knew I needed to do something. My weight started to increase after I had each one of my 3 kids. Over the past years I have struggled with my weight. I would lose a little and gained it back plus more.It wasn’t til after my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer about 3 years ago I really started to rethink my life and wanted to really change my lifestyle cause I didn’t wanted to be plagued with any diseases that are plaguing our people today. I started working out by joining a gym and trying to cut back on the foods that I eat. I am proud today that I am now 158. My weight goal is 150 then I will just maintain my weight and tone more. I would like the females to know that no matter how slow the progress of losing weight is and the ups and down that comes with it, just continue to stick with it and it will take its advantages. I am much older, wiser, slimmer, and happier and I owe it all to my Father Yah in heaven. I pray I can be an inspiration to someone. Thank you!!!”
Today’s featured weight loss success story: DeAngela lost 76 pounds going from 215 to 139 by changing her eating habits and exercising.

Here is what she said about her weight loss journey:
“If I can do it, you can do it too!!! From 215 lbs in April 2010 to 139 lbs now. Hey, with God ALL things are possible. No pills, no surgery, just pure change of eating habits & exercise. I started with small changes transitioning from fried to “mostly” baked & grilled foods & decreasing my intake of carbs. From there, I did a strict 6-month regimen of only seafood & veggies. During that time, I not only saw the weight coming off, but as I increased my cardio & added weights, I became leaner, decreasing my body fat percentage from 33 to 19.8%. Today, I still do some high intensity interval training, Zumba + other cardio (rope jumping, arc trainer, & some walking/jogging, & weights for lean muscle building. MyFitnessPal.com is a phenomenal tool to help u keep track of such things as calories, fat, sugar, protein, & carbs. I’ve been logging my food & exercise on that tool since March 1. As they say, “steady wins the race”, but ya gotta keep pushing….pushing beyond fear of failure, pushing past comfort zones, & pushing in spite of plateaus. With God ANYTHING & ALL THINGS are possible!”
Update 2015 – Not only has LaKeitha maintained her 65 pound weight loss for 2+ years, but this Delta Soror also had a child within that time frame. That means she won the baby weight battle.
“Hello, I wanted to provide an update on where I am now with my weight. I lost the weight successfully in 2012 to have a healthy pregnancy. I continued to workout throughout my pregnancy 4 days a week until I was 8 months pregnant. That helped with maintaining and controlling my weight gain throughout the pregnancy. After having my baby, it took a few months to get my weight back down to my pre-pregnancy weight, but I successfully did it and I am striving hard to maintain it. I am proud of myself that after four years I have not gained the weight back.”

10 years ago, Regina had weight loss surgery and has lost 185 pounds. She says, “On December 03, 2002, My life changed forever. I elected to have WLS & experienced every complication you could imagine & today I believe that I’m a better me because of it. People ask me all the time do I have any regrets and the answer is and always will be no. From 360lbs to 175lbs #win
I had the RNY (Roux-en-y Gastric Bypass). I’m very particular about what I eat. I do a lot of juicing , fresh fruits & veggies. I try to stick with all natural products and it’s rare that I eat out. I run 5 miles 4 days a week and hit the gym 3 days a week. The weird part is before surgery I was walking 6miles a day and eating pretty healthy.

Today’s featured weight loss success story: Kiesha lost 50 pounds after the birth of her 3rd child. This is a great success story for those who are losing post-baby weight.

Here is what she had to say about her weight loss journey:
“After giving birth to my 3rd child I was at the heaviest weight of my life: 208lbs! Immediately after giving birth, I lost around 20lbs of water weight from preeclampsia, but over the last 2 months doing P90x I’ve lost an additional 30 for a total of 50lbs!! I’m still not at my goal, but pages like yours REALLY help keep me motivated to keep going!! This black woman’s losing weight!!!!!
When I started P90x it came with a nutrition plan. I don’t follow it to a t because I’ve never been good at being told exactly what I can and can’t eat but I used it as an educational guide and it taught me how to clean up my diet. I’m now eating more protein than carbs and when I do eat carbs they’re complex rather than simple. I’m also eating clean now..if you can’t grow it or kill it I don’t eat it. I’m working out 6 days a week and just really staying focused on my goals.
I’ve also cut all beverages from my diet except for water and green smoothies. When I get bored with water I add flavor packs to change it up, but I’m not drining anything else.”
