Today’s weight loss success story: My Sigma Gamma Rho soror Charlene is today’s featured success story. She lost 50 pounds with Weight Watchers.
Here is her story:
I have never been skinny, but about a year ago I started to think about how lucky I am in terms of my health in relation to my weight. I have high blood pressure, but have not developed other illnesses associated with being overweight like diabetes, heart problems, high cholesterol, etc. The school where I work offered a Weight Watchers at Work program and I decided to take advantage of it. Weight Watchers and I just click. It’s not so restrictive that I feel like I can’t eat anything. It just forces you to really watch what you eat, and how much of it. So I stopped eating out and eating that good old Southern home cooking from my family. I watch salt and sugar intake. I moved from white flour and breads and pasta to whole wheat. I measure my food (I was surprised at how much food I overeat). And I eat vegetables and fruit and drink lots of water. I pretty much stick to the plan.
As far as exercise, I started with walking. I am lucky to have a Soror and friend who has truly been my inspiration. She leads a walking group and we walk in the afternoons. She is always checking on me and keeping me accountable with my exercise. Exercise is an area where I really need that extra push. I also do home videos, some strength training and spin on my exercise bike.
So far, I have lost just over 50 pounds. I am very proud and I don’t feel like I’m on a diet. I feel like I am changing my life. Here’s a cool weight loss story … I was overseeing an event at work and the person playing the music was playing the wrong track. So I ran out of the auditorium, down a long hall and up two flights of stairs before I even realized it. I would have never been able to do that a year ago. It reminded me that it’s all worth it.
