Weight Loss Story of the Day: Kherry lost 38 pounds. This mom of two is focused on lifestyle change, not just losing pounds. With the help of a trainer, she not only got her eating and exercise habits in line, but she learned how important and helpful accountability can be on this journey. Here is what she shared with us…

After having my two boys, my weight was the furthest thing from my mind. I woke up one morning and was tired of what I was seeing in the mirror. I was at my heaviest in September 2014, I weighed 253 pounds. Thanks to my personal trainer and eating right, by April 2015 I weighed 226 pounds. Currently, I weigh 215 pounds (height: 5’8″) and I’m still on a mission to reach my goal of 200 lbs. My journey wasn’t just about my weight. It’s about lifestyle change and being comfortable in the skin I am in!
When I attempted to exercise and eat right previously, I did not have anyone to hold me accountable for my actions. I needed the additional support. My personal trainer knew about my goals and was a constant supporter through all of my efforts. She holds me accountable and therefore I am more inclined to hold myself accountable, especially for the things I am eating.
I do two days of strength training, 3 days of cardio and I have 2 rest days. Not only was I getting weekly workouts from her, she also assisted with my nutrition. Before I started this journey, I ate whatever I had a taste for. It did not matter if I was hungry or not, I ate it anyway. I learned proper portion control, how to read nutrition labels and the difference between complex carbs, and bad carbs. I became more conscious about what I was putting into my body. My trainer is completely online and can be found at upgradeufitness.com.
While I do credit my trainer with most of my success, I do give credit to myself as well. A lot of what I do is based on my determination and doing the homework she gives me during the days that we don’t meet.
My transformation has taken 10 months and I am 15lbs away from my goal. I’ve had ups and downs during my journey but I am determined not to quit. I will reach and maintain my goal. This journey is a lifestyle change and I will continue to strive to be healthy.
My advice for others trying to lose weight is that they need to remember that it is a journey and not a race. They should strive for progress and not perfection. Also, they should challenge themselves to change. These are all of the things I keep in mind from my trainer to ensure continued success. I thank you for the opportunity to share my journey.

There is a lot of debate over what the optimum human diet is, especially when it comes to weight loss. I am of the belief that there is no perfect plan, no one size fits all plan for losing weight. However, I do think that fad diets promising to help you lose X number of pounds in a week or two should be avoided like the plague.

Calorie counting is one of the most universally common means of losing weight. Diets focusing on weight loss, whether it’s Paleo or vegetarian, often times use some type of method of counting calories or portion sizes to ensure that there is a calorie deficit. A calorie deficit means you consume less calories than you burn. When this happens your body is more prone to lose weight as long as it’s getting the right mix of food. (i.e. eating 1200 calories of pure sugar a day would not be a recipe for weight loss).
